Christian, when are heat exchangers used and what are their major tasks and objectives?

Our heat exchangers of the Longtherm series are plate heat exchangers. They are used to separate circuits with different operating parameters, which can be different operating pressures, water contents or water qualities. The range of possible applications is wide. Underfloor heating or drinking water heating are covered as well as district heating systems, large solar systems or machine cooling. The main task of a heat exchanger is to ensure the best possible heat exchange with specially embossed plates and the lowest possible flow resistance – the countercurrent principle, in which the two liquid media flow past each other from opposite directions, comes into play. We can guarantee maximum compatibility. This means that no matter what size, embossing or connection type is required by the customer – we make it suitable. We can also realise special sizes of our brazed plate heat exchangers on request. Or, on request, we can implement customer-specific adaptations by offering the plates in titanium or carbon steel instead of stainless steel, for example.

You have optimised the brazed heat exchangers, what has changed in detail?

The focus was on improving the performance of the integrated plates, which are made of high-quality stainless steel. For our customers, we can carry out even more precise matching of the individual plates and types, with L for "low", M for "middle" and H for "high" there are three plate profiles to choose from. At the same time, we have fine-tuned the design. Thanks to the special soldering process, we ensure stability. In addition, the heat exchangers – the permanent connection of the plates makes this possible – resisting high temperatures of up to 230° Celsius and operating pressures of up to 30 bar.

Reflex has expanded its portfolio for ISH - in addition to the soldered versions, gasketed versions are now also available. What are these particularly suitable for?

Gasketed heat exchangers prove their worth when very small temperature spreads are present. Or when very high output ranges over one megawatt are given. Since the gasketed versions can be dismantled, they can be cleaned easily and quickly. They can also be extended by further plate packs made of stainless steel. Another advantage for the planner: We can offer a large vertical range of manufacture and thus cover a wide range of applications.

With Reflex Control Smart and, for example, the ErP app, you have digital applications on offer that prove themselves in everyday life. Is there anything comparable for heat exchangers?

For Reflex it is important to support our customers in times of well-filled order books with intelligent solutions that are easy to handle. After all, it means making work processes as efficient as possible. And this also includes heat exchangers. Here we have designed a new design tool that calculates the right solution and configures the right product selection on the basis of a few aspects such as "What type of heat exchanger should be calculated?" and "What output must be transferred from the heat exchanger?” This applies to our brazed heat exchangers as well as to the new gasketed versions.
